David Bowie (1947-2016)
Ground Control to Major Tom. Take your protein pills and put your helmet on ... For here am I sitting in my tin can. Far above the world. Planet Earth is blue. And there's nothing I can do.
Now he knows what we do not. So turn and face the strange.

the only time bowie and i were in the same room, he was performing in buffalo
ReplyDeletethe opening act were the supporting singers and musicians - after a few numbers the crowd made known their impatience for the main event - when the last number prior to bowie was announced, the singer said pointedly, "thank you, BALTIMORE"
only years later, when i moved to baltimore myself, did i realize what an insult had been intended
the bowie album i have listened to again and again is "let's dance", with stevie ray vaughan on lead guitar - even sober, i still enjoy it
"for fear tonight is all" - as it eventually will be, inevitably - who knows the day or the hour?
